My latest show: “Surprised but not delighted" - a show by Katie Lips and other contemporary artists working with mixed and multiple media.
It explores technology startup culture; the value of ideas, the price of ambitions, and the promise technology makes to the hopeful.
The show opens 3rd March and runs for just 2 short days at Jealous Gallery, 53 Curtain Road, London.
A few weeks ago I asked some friends to collaborate on an artwork with me by sending me pictures of meeting rooms. Many obliged. Thank you so so much: Mary Wallace, Tara Hunt, Caroline Lips, Katrina Stiff, Paul Stringer, Craig Desjardins, Andy Todd, Wilhelm Booyse, and Ben Moore - you're all amazing!
I’m rather fascinated by meeting rooms, meeting room design, or lack thereof, and the entirely unnatural and inhuman spaces that many people ‘in business’ are required to inhabit. Often we’re meant to come up with clever thinking in these spaces. Often our minds go blank. Well, mine so often does. Most of these spaces are shared - with the colleagues and teams who’ve been in three before and who will follow when we’re gone. There are remnants of past meetings; artefacts of a creative process, of decision making, and sometimes of food.
With a few of the lovely meeting room pictures sent to me by you I’ve created “We Meet In Here”; an artwork that explores the simple thoughts we might think we exist in these spaces.
So far this is a short series, but my aim is to make this bigger. If you’re inspired and would like to see more Meeting Room creativity, then send me more of your INSPIRATIONAL meeting rooms or just post them on Instagram tagged with #wemeetinhere. Many of the images in this series are from tech startups or 'innovative' businesses aiming to create 'real change'.
I haven’t yet used all of the images I’ve been sent; but keep them coming!
And THANK YOU, again.
"Surprised But Not Delighted" explores startup culture. I went to Campus London yesterday to take a long look at the co-working aesthetic / immerse myself in the co-working vibe. Here are some pictures.
